As a personnel manager I interviewed potential hires for my company. We were experiencing a shortage of proficient word processing typists, so I asked my manager if I could teach a Saturday class on how to use a word processor. In a matter of a few weeks we had the typists that we needed.
The added bonus was that these typists were inspired to continue learning more about word processing and over the course of a few years moved up in our organization based on their habit of being curious and taking on challenges.
A few Saturdays of training helped others see me as a leader, but more importantly, it helped me feel confident taking those first steps.
Today I know those classes in leadership made a difference for all my life.
